About The Foundation

Because of Matt’s long enduring and expensive treatment, in 2008 a fundraising effort was started by his family and friends in the golf world to help in this effort. The momentum gathered speed throughout the community and soon it became a much greater cause than its’ original intention of helping with medical & education bills.

The Matt Snodgrass Foundation, Inc. was started in the early Spring of last year as the first inaugural golf benefit was being organized.  The foundation has met all criteria in its’ application as a non-profit organization and has received final approval as a 501c3 from the IRS.

Who benefits from the foundation?

The foundation will help young adult survivors with its’ main focus on dealing with issues such as obtaining and maintaining health insurance, seeking employment that includes health benefits, maintaining their personal health through education, fitness and training, and continuing their academic education to build a more secure future for themselves.

Beginning in 2010, an annual Matt Snodgrass Foundation Scholarship will be set up at Matt’s alma mater, Spring Valley High School, to help a graduating survivor or student that has been affected by cancer in their immediate family. The award will be presented at their annual Relay-For-Life event each spring.

A portion of any proceeds raised will also benefit local charities that have helped Matt along his journey. Some of the charities that the Matt Snodgrass Foundation, Inc. will aid are listed but not limited to: Candlelighter’s of So. Nevada, Make-A-Wish Foundation of So. Nevada and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Fundraising Efforts

On July 4, 2008 the 1st Inaugural Matt Snodgrass Foundation Golf Benefit was held at the CasaBlanca Golf Club in Mesquite, NV.  Through the generous donation of owner Randy Black, the first tournament started with 60 players and was a fun-filled weekend for the players as well as their families.

To celebrate Matt’s 21st birthday, on May 29, 2009 the 2nd Annual Matt Snodgrass Foundation Golf Benefit took place at Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson, NV, courtesy of Rich McDonald. Even with the current economic climate we are facing, 90 players turned out to join Matt for a great day of golf and celebration of his landmark birthday.

And, plans are well underway for the 3rd Annual Matt Snodgrass Foundation Golf Benefit.  It will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 again at Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson, NV.
